Montag (musician)

Antoine Bédard (born ''c.'' 1978) is a Canadian electronic musician, best known for his recordings under the stage name Montag.
Originally from Montreal,〔Sayani, Fateema. "Montag: A Laptop Faithful No More", ''The Ottawa Citizen'', 2005-04-14, p. E3.〕 he sings in both French and English, and is currently residing in Montreal again, after a stint in Vancouver, British Columbia.〔Harris, Michael. "Frenchie chic", ''The Globe and Mail'', 2006-12-01, p. R3.〕 He recently completed a tour with The One AM Radio and Lymbyc Systym.
Sometimes referred to as a "laptop musician", he received a grant from the Quebec Arts Council to record and catalogue orchestra instruments. He uses the database—with the sounds sometimes looped and processed—in his live performances, along with his own keyboard playing.〔Sayani, Fateema. "A night of laptop rock", ''The Ottawa Citizen'', 2004-06-03, p. F3.〕
On his 2005 album ''Alone, Not Alone'', he collaborated with hip hop music producer Sixtoo.〔Sayani, Fateema. "Recordings", ''The Ottawa Citizen'', 2005-03-05, p. L4.〕
His 2007 album, ''Going Places'', includes collaborations with M83, Ida Nilsen, Ghislain Poirier, Final Fantasy and Amy Millan.〔Dunlevy, T'Cha. "New Music: Newly Released Compact Discs", ''The Gazette'', 2007-06-07, p. E2.〕〔Sayani, Fateema. "Montag Discovers Pop Wonder", ''The Ottawa Citizen'', 2007-06-21, p. F3.〕 For the title track, he spliced together sounds that fans from around the world had sent in to him; he credits 70 contributors.〔Fox, Killian. "Review: CD releases: Montag Going Places", ''The Observer'', 2007-12-16, p. 23.〕 An openly gay man, Bédard's song "Best Boy Electric" is a boy-on-boy duet that tells of the romance that prompted his move to Vancouver.〔Shanti, Gus. "(Crossing the continent for love: Antoine Bédard is Going Places )", ''Xtra! West'', 2007-07-05. Retrieved on 2008-07-07.〕
He won a 2008 Jessie Award for Outstanding Sound Design or Original Composition, for his contribution to a production of ''4.48 Psychosis''.〔Birnie, Peter. "Bard and Playhouse top Jessies list", ''The Vancouver Sun'', 2008-07-02, p. C1.〕
In 2012, Montag will release one single a month, all released by Carpark Records. Each single will be accompanied by a music video.
